The fishing harbour of Sougia
Sougia is a very small fishing village 15km east of Paleohora. To the east of the harbour, in front of the village there is a very long pebble beach. There is also a dried up river bed to the east of the settlement. There is a very small sports/fishing harbour here. The village has minimal shopping facilities - mini markets etc. There is no fuel, repairs or health services here. There are telephone and mail facilities and a money exchange office. There are several small hotels and tavernas. There is a daily bus to Chania.
There is a ramp in the harbour. The stern-to and bow-to moorings are only for small boats (under 3m) but the protection is good in all weather conditions. Anchor only in calm weather. The winds can be very sudden and violent here.
