If you are in Ierapetra and you go to the southwest. Then after about 15 to 20 minutes (depends on your car or bike:) you are in Mirtos, a beautifal little village at the sea with 600 inhabitants. There is sth. special about Mirtos. It is not very touristic, yet it has many nationalities (goes back to the hippie time)and a beautiful little boulevard: there is allways a free chair or table and the beach is also nice. If you want to stay overnight we would recommend a little complex called Mirtini, it is somewhere on the centre on the village square and has a beautiful garten and a friendly greek-dutch woman tells you also about nice tours to make in the area.
