Description

The pan-European exhibition “Plants and Culture in the history of Europe” has been produced in the framework of the programme PACE (www.plants-culture.unimore.it), as part of the European Culture Programme (2007-2013), coordinated by Italian archaeobotanists.
Using an innovative approach to plants, this exhibition, which has been already hosted in eight European countries, aims to highlight the importance of plants in building a European identity. It covers botany, archaeology, plant use throughout history, and folk traditions from 11 European countries, offering also a brief glance to the European botanical history.
Additionally, the Natural History Museum of Crete enriched this exhibition with showcases containing certain plants and their derivatives. In collaboration with the Foundation for Research and Technology (F.O.R.T.H), it produced specific interactive exhibits referring to plants known in antiquity and the Minoan era.
