Driving from Chania, a bit further east from Kalyves you arrive in Almyrida, with another sandy beach and shallow waters.

Almirida combines the best of all worlds.

If you´re after a quiet holiday by the sea, with a lovely sandy beach, fringed with little tavernas, this is for you.

If you want to simply use it as a base, to explore the area, it has good local transport, including a bus service, car hire and a taxi rank.

Almirida also offers sailing and windsurfing and has a little harbour, providing basic facilities for boats - and a good variety of shops. Highly recommended!

Almirida bay has a beautiful sheltered beach with Blue Flag status. There are a selection of tavernas. There is a 3-times-a-day bus serevice to Chania and local villages. This is run to a Greek time table which means if the driver needs to stop for a coffee he will. Chania is the main town and is about 30 mins drive from Almirida. It is a good idea to hire a car so you can explore the area. Almirida has two hire car companies located in the center.

Almirida once a quiet fishing village rarely seen by travellers has turned during the last ten years into a quietly busy holiday destination for those seeking a quiet retreat fairly close to other sites of interest. For some years now Almirida beach has held Blue Flag status. The beach is lined with enough tavernas and bars to ensure a different venue for your meals on most nights of your stay. At the time of writing, two of the bars provide varied entertainment during the week including statellite TV showing popular English and European football matches. There are also two small hotels which have regular "Greek evenings" during the tourist season. There are many other excellent tavernas in the surrounding villages. On the beach during the tourist season is a small water sports centre where windsurfing, sailing and sea conoeing is based.

Entertainment.

In Almirida, a quiet evening in the local tavernas with occasional Greek night is about it. There are no discos or clubs. One of the bars usually has a quiz night and guest entertainer night during the season.

Almirida is a lovely quiet spot and suitable for families with small children.
