The town of Agii Deka is 44km south of Iraklion
on the Iraklion - Timbaki road.
The town and the Byzantine church of the Agii Deka (Ten Martyrs) have been named after the ten martyrs. The Romans beheaded these men about 250 A.D., after they refused to worship the Roman pagan idols. An earlier church has been excavated beside the newer church of Agii Deka.
