St Jonh's Cave

The Cave of St. John is beside the Katholiko Monastery. In the tenth century the Byzantine Emperor Nikiforos Fokas sent Saint John the Hermit to Crete. He lived and died in the cave and his grave is nearby.
The cave contains many stalactites and stalagmites. It is 150 metres in length and 40 metres wide and the height ranges from 3 to 20 metres.
