This was the original site of the Venetian barracks of Saint George built during the sixteenth century. After the Turks destroyed it, they built their own barracks in 1883 which were designed by the same architect as the church of Agios Minas. The north door is the original from the San Francesco Monastery that stood where the Archaeological Museum is today.
