Venetian remnants in the Firkas, Chania
The Firkas Bastion is at the western end of the outer harbour. Part of it now houses the Maritime Museum.
The Venetians used the Bastion as a prison for Greeks condemned to death. Eleftherios Venizelos and King Constantine officially raised the Greek flag here in 1913 during the union of Crete with the rest of the country.

During the summer months, the Firkas Bastion hosts local Cretan dance groups that give public performances. Plays and concerts are also performed there.
