Meseleri is the site of the ancient city of Oleros which had been under the influence of Ierapytna, the stronger city and in the second century B.C. Oleros was under the sovereignty of Ierapytna. Southeast of the village of Meseleri is the old monastery of the Panagia Vriomeni surrounded by trees, and strongly resembles the setting of an ancient Greek temple. Above the entrance door the date 1577 is inscribed. The church also contains some attractive frescoes
