This large area follows a similar plan to Malia and Knossos, oriented on the north-northeast, south-southwest axis it had porticoes on the east and west sides. The supporting column bases are still in evidence in some places. The diamond shaped flagstones which paved the courtyard are excellently preserved. There is a central doorway in the huge square blocks of the north end. There are recessed guards posts on either side of the doorway and one inside the passage. The sockets of the double doors that opened to the passageway are still visible. Inside the passage there is a stairway beneath which is two pithari. It leads to the reception rooms above.
