You can reach the mountain's imposing summit from a road between Arhanes and Vathipetro. From Arhanes the road continues to Vathipetro and in 3km there is a right turn on a roughly paved road to the summit of Mount Youktas (4km).

The ancients believed Zeus was buried here, despite his immortality. There is a Minoan sanctuary as well as a Byzantine church at the summit.
