The tavern "Levéntis" in Áno Stalós has been in business since 1995.
GETTING THERE:
First you have to get to the Stalós region from the old highway, 7km west of Haniá. Then follow the road to Áno Stalós, 1.5km from the old national road.
HIGHLIGHTS:
The motto of the tavern is "healthy, pure and tasty food, cooked according to traditional recipes". It is only the olive oil produced by the tavern's owner that is used for the preparation of both casseroles and fried dishes. The ingredients used, such as vegetables, fruit and meat, are all supplied by local producers. The tavern also offers local wine and bread baked in a wood burning oven.
DO NOT MISS OUT ON:
Meat pie, smoked delicacies, such as apáki and síglino, stuffed vegetables, small Cretan pastry filled with onions or greens, fennel pie, a wide variety of meat, vegetables, and appetisers.
THE ESTABLISHMENT:
The tavern features an impressive interior elegantly decorated with wood and stone, as well as a fireplace. During the summer the tavern’s large veranda provides a welcoming shade, a true oasis, where you can relaxing and cool down during the hot summer months gazing at the nice view of the olive groves and the mountainous villages. The tavern is currently in the process of obtaining a quality certification for its cuisine.
AWARDS:
Two specialties prepared in "Levéntis" were awarded at the 2006 "Eleogefsíes" contest. The recipe "octopus with black bryony" received the first prize in the category of sautéed and stewed dishes, while its specialty "beans with macaroni" won the second prize in the category of casseroles.
In addition, the same tavern was awarded the first prize, out of 80 taverns and restaurants in Crete, for the quality of its food in a contest organised by "Gourmet" magazine.
SIGHTSEEING:
Sea is only 1,5km away from the tavern. The lake of also Agiá is nearby, a natural habitat for many species, and a place of exceptional natural beauty. The gorge of Thérissos is also nearby and is strongly recommended, while a route starting from Áno Stalós will take you a series of mountainous or tourist villages.

The restaurant is open from 5 pm until late at night during winter. It is closed on Mondays from the end of March until the beginning of October.
