Kafe Bar Slow Food Tzítzikas

The restaurant "Tzítzikas" was established in 2006 at a site of exceptional natural beauty.

GETTING THERE:
It is situated in the village of "Arméni" next to the Haniá-Rethimno highway. Turn left at the junction in Kalíves and continue for a 2 more kilometres.

HIGHLIGHTS:
"Tzitzikas" is in an idyllic spot located in the area of the municipality kiosk. The restaurant is a result of a great deal of artistry and zeal, and has been built in such as way that it harmoniously merges with the surrounding environment of plane trees and flowing waters. The region is full of natural springs and running water.

DO NOT MISS OUT ON:
A large variety of products are available here, most of which are organic. Try natural juices, home made sour cherry juice, organic beers, peppers and "the joy of dough" (a dish comprising various kinds of kalitsoúnia, small Cretan pies filled with cheese, greens, onion, zucchini etc). You can also enjoy a wide variety of salads here, such as three kinds of lettuce salad, Mediterranean salad and sweet salad with fig, orange, apple and raisins.

The red, green and yellow fáva (split pea puree), groats, the "Tzítzikas" home made fresh ravioli among other pasta dishes are all organic and some of the most popular dishes. Meat lovers can enjoy different dishes, such as chicken fillet, "mama’s veal" (veal in tomato sauce), and Greek meatballs in tomato sauce.

As for wines, apart from Marouvá (wine from Kíssamos) and Cabernet, organic wines from Haniá such as "Nóstos", as well as tsikoudiá, and tsípouro, both grape-based spirits, are also offered. Last but not least, a wide selection of home made sweets and ice creams will pleasantly surprise your palate. All dishes are made with locally-produced ingredients. Organic olive oil is used for the preparation in all organic dishes, while extra-virgin olive oil is used for all other meals.

THE ESTABLISHMENT:
The restaurant is a warm and friendly place, mainly built with wood and other materials in utter harmony with the surrounding nature.

SIGHTSEEING:
The region is ideal for bike excursions to the neighbouring villages of "Nió Horió" and "Stílos" while, for those preferring sea, they can easily reach the village of "Kalíves", only five minutes away by car. Mountain lovers can visit "Marcher", one of the most beautiful villages in Haniá.

You can also venture along extraordinary paths and wander through wonderful orchards and rivers, such as "Kiliáris" river, and/or visit the numerous Byzantine churches and monuments of the region.
