The village of Gerakari was levelled by the Germans in the World War II after the abduction of General Kreipe. The area of Gerakari contains several old churches. In the location Foti, on the main road, is the Byzantine church of Agios Ioannis Theologos with well-preserved thirteenth century wall paintings. The church is a single room and has a narthex in front of it and a dome. The dome is decorated with blind arches made with bricks.
