The staircase and the Propylon, Festos

This large covered porch, at the top of the Grand Staircase, was the entrance (propylon) to the palace proper. Its roof was supported by a single enormous column (1.3m in diameter), behind which were a pair of double doors that opened onto an anteroom and a colonnaded lightwell.
