At the west end of the Rampa al Mare turn left and enter the West Wing Apartments. These rooms are regarded as exceptional examples of Minoan architecture and of the degree of sophistication of the Minoan culture. This room complex is believed to have been a formal reception area and the works of art displayed in the Iraklion Museum were found here.
Hall
This large terrace opened with a pier-door system south, to a enjoyable view of the sea. Vertical wooden beams supported the room and provided buffers against earthquakes.
Inner Chamber
This now-restored area has benches flanking the restored gypsum and red stucco walls. The upper floors were possibly a reception area where valuable artefacts were found. The Harvest Vase and the Boxer Rhyton, presently displayed in the Iraklion Museum, were found in fragments in the lower rooms.
