The tavern "Douniás" in Drakóna, Keramiá, situated at the foot of the White Mountains (Lefká Óri) opened three years ago.
GETTING THERE:
It lies 22km away from Haniá. Follow the road to Mourniés, drive through the villages of Keramiá, until you reach Drakóna at the foot of the White Mountains (Lefká Óri).
DO NOT MISS OUT ON:
Hand-kneaded bread and rusks made with biological flour and baked in a wood burning oven, kid with black bryony, bellies fricassee, all of which have been awarded at the olive oil food and dishes competition. Try recipes with free-range chicken and traditional chilopítes pasta, piktí (pork jelly brawn), Cretan pasta made of crushed wheat grain (xinóhondros), stewed rabbit stifádo, simbetherió (a local soup made of an assortment of garden greens, such as aubergines, zucchini, zucchini blossoms, wild amaranth, and black nightshade, tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, and corn). All vegetables are grown in the owners' garden, the Trilirákis family. Again, the use of olive oil to cook all the above is a must.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Pure homemade cuisine in one of the most beautiful mountainous villages of Haniá.
