Georgioupolis is the beginning of a 10 kilometre stretch of beach that runs beside the highway from Chania to Rethimnon. The beach along this strip is sandy and has a fairly gradual entry into the water. On windy days the water has a dangerous current, so people should watch for the flags that indicate its safety.
