Evgenios Voulgaris started his music training in 1985 studying Byzantine music. His interest in traditional music started in 1992 and took the form of apprenticeship next to Christos Tsiamoulis. Since 2001 he has been attending lessons on the interpretation of Ottoman music next to Fahrettin Cimenli in Istanbul. Of particular importance to his musical training has been a series of seminars on the oud, saz, afghani rabab, as well as composition and orchestration in the context of the "Labyrinth" Musical Workshops organized in Houdetsi, Crete.
A multi-instrumentalist himself, he has repeatedly teamed with master musicians and composers such as Ross Daly, Christos Tsiamoulis, Nikos Kipurgos, Dimitris Papadimitriou, Notis Marvudis in concerts, recordings and television productions in Greece and abroad. Since 1995 he is the leading mandolinist of the Orchestra of Colors. More recently he has collaborated with Camerata Orchestra and The National Orchestra of Athens. As a yayli tanbur solist his most recent performance was at the Conservatoire National de Boulogne-Billancourt in Paris.
Of particular interest to him is teaching. For the last eight years he has been teaching in the Municipal Conservatory of Patras, where he leads f the Head of Department of Traditional Music, and has been leading the School of Traditional Instruments of Ilia's Church. His appointment in the Bartholomio and Patras Music Schools can also be included in his teaching experience, along with his more recent collaboration, starting in March 2005, with the Department of Folk and Traditional Music (Epirus Institute of Technology), where he teaches the oud, yayli tanbur, organology, and makam theory. Since 2006 he also teaches in the "Labyrinth" Musical Workshop and the Music Village. His book on Rebetika songs of the Inner War period was published in 2007 (Fagotto Publications- Department of Folk and Traditional Music).
In 2004 he released his first CD "Wanderings" together with the singer Dora Petridis. His second CD "The message of the prince" was also recently released. His work includes also music for theatre (‘'The History of a captive", ‘'Staxtomazoxtra", "The woman from Zante" by the Ionian Theatre, as well as the productions "The end of the game" and "The Pope Ioanna" by the Municipal Theatre of Patras). In close collaboration with Dimitris Mistakidis, Tolis Tsardakas and Theodora Athanasiou the cd "Apsilies" has been recently released.
