While Christmas is not as big a celebration as Easter, there is a holiday spirit, and usually the weather is mild and dry and people go out walking and visiting. On January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, a celebration takes place beside the various harbours, with large crowds attending. The local boats gather, and after blessing them the priest throws a cross into the water. It is eagerly dived after, and the finder is honoured. The boats let off their smoke bombs and signal guns at this time.
