The mouth of the Eilithia Cave
After the first turn, under the road, is the cave of Eilithia which is among the oldest places of worship in Europe. People used it from 2500 B.C. up to early Christian times. Archaeologists have concluded that the fertility goddess was worshipped here. Homer referred to the cave as a place Odysseus stopped on his way to Troy. The cave is not open to the public without special permission.
