Zakros - East Wing

This wing is thought to have been the royal apartments as it was a two-storied complex with a colonnaded room. The larger room behind the veranda is considered to have been the Kings and the smaller one the Queens. The most interesting discovery in the colonnaded room was the cistern. The unique design of the cistern allowed the level of the spring-fed waterlevel to be kept constant by a method of run-off to a well outside the palace. The cistern had eight steps going into it and columns around the area suggest that it had been covered.
