Hellenistic Remains in Eleftherna

The Hellenistic bridge in Eleftherna
An incredible bridge from the Hellenistic era has survived and is still in a good state of preservation in the valley. It is triangular and is made of large stones. It is still usable and you have to walk over it before you descend to observe it. The bridge can be reached by car from the village of Eleftherna on a rough unpaved track. Take the unpaved road down the valley from the end of the village. The road circles and comes under the village of Eleftherna going parallel to the acropolis on the other side of the ravine. The road continues down, bypasses the hill of the acropolis and reaches the riverbed. It then starts ascending (leaving behind the acropolis on the right). About 100 metres after the riverbed, the road splits. Take the left fork that stays near the river. (The river is now on your left hand side). About 300 metres later there is a fallen wire gate. The bridge is below, on the left, but is only visible from the road if you walk near the edge overlooking the ravine, as thick vegetation makes it difficult to see it.
