The water channel in the East Bastion, Knossos
There is an interesting stone channel here that descends beside the steps. This elaborate system was built to control the runoff of rainwater. The water descended over a number of contrived waterfalls with pools at the bottom, thus greatly reducing speed and allowing the water to turn a corner without overflowing. Before it ran off clear the water passed into square troughs to allow the collection of foam. Evans believed this to have been the laundry area.
