Knossos - The Lower Rooms

The Throne Room, Knossos
The Throne Room, Knossos
The Lower Rooms consist of the Antechamber, the Throne Room and the Lustral Basin.
Antechamber
A small staircase descends to the Antechamber of the Throne Room, flanked by gypsum benches. A wooden replica of the throne can be seen here.
Throne Room
The original gypsum throne is here with benches on both sides and a reproduction of griffins on the wall. There is a small inner chamber off the Throne Room.
Lustral Basin
This bath can be reached from the Throne Room. The Minoan Lustral Basins were used for ceremonial purification purposes only. The discovery of sacred vessels here suggests that a dramatic ceremonial ritual was taking place here in the final moments of the palace.
