The Minoan paved road in the palace of Zakros
This road way of blue and white stones came from the harbour installations, turned (at the entrance Kiosk) and went into the palace grounds. The harbour is no longer evident as the tilt of Crete has changed and so has the drainage from the valley behind, but it is understood that this eastern port of Crete was very important for trade with the east. The road continued to the town passing a bronze foundry (under a protective roof) and the entrance to the palace. The foundry was from the New Palace Period and had a melting chamber and four airducts. Bronze remains were found in the chamber.
