On the eastern side of the acropolis hill, reached through the village of ancient Eleftherna, there is the Byzantine church of Sotiras Christos from the tenth century, which contains frescoes of the twelfth century. At the north end of the village there is a sign to the church. It has cruciform architecture and a rectangular shape. The church has re-used materials from an earlier church of the sixth century, a basilica which is believed to have been the bishopric of Eleftherna during the first Byzantine period. Lower still, on the same dirt track, there are the remains of another basilica of the first Byzantine period, a Roman villa, and of a second Greek bridge.
