Malia - Hall of the West Wing and the Pillar Crypt

This large antechamber allowed access to the Pillar Crypt area behind it. The pillars have double axes carved into them just as the crypt in Knossos does. Also similar to that of Knossos and Festos, is the location of the storerooms behind the Pillar Crypt--this proximity to the crypt areas indicates a relationship between cult practises and agricultural production. Exactly opposite the Pillar Crypt and in the middle of the Central Court is the pit of the altar.
